Your personal brand can help you cut through the clutter of resumes to get noticed, to get considered and to get hired! The concept of personal branding was first popularised by Tom Peters, one of my favourite business authors, in an article by Fast Company in 1997 titled “The Brand Called You” in which it was clear that everybody – not just celebrities or CEOs – needed to craft their image.
Once you’ve identified what your real talent and motivator is, you have to package your talent and then behave and communicate in a manner that is consistent. What really sets you apart from others in your field? What is your unique personality? How do you come across in your interactions with others? How do you communicate all of these strengths in a strategic manner using both traditional and modern tools and channels available in order to advance your dreams and ambitions? This is personal branding.
When you have developed a powerful personal brand, you stand out from the pack. Doors open for you. Your North Star guides you to select the ones that will further enhance your aspirations. The possibilities are limitless. Your impact is inevitable. You will be remembered for the things that will create your legacy. This is the Power of Brand YOU.
